Ryan Gauld’s productive three seasons with the Vancouver Whitecaps has earned him a new, long-term deal with the club.
Gauld signed a Designated Player contract extension through 2027, the Whitecaps announced. The Scottish playmaker enjoyed his best season yet in 2023, tallying 12 goals and a club-high 17 assists across 42 appearances in all competitions.
“Since joining the club in the summer of 2021, Ryan has been the creative force behind our attack and one of the league’s best players,” said Whitecaps FC sporting director Axel Schuster. “He has helped us push forward as a club by making the MLS Cup Playoffs twice and winning two Canadian Championships, all while bringing a top level of professionalism to the locker room every day. Ryan and his fiancée Kat have embraced the city as a second home and have supported local organizations in our community. We are pleased to confirm Ryan will be with us in the long term as he helps us achieve our goals in the years to come.”
Since joining the Whitecaps in July 2021 from Portuguese side SC Farense, Gauld has contributed 26 goals and 34 assists in 94 appearances. His 60 goal contributions are the most in the club’s MLS era.
The Whitecaps reached the MLS Cup Playoffs in 2023 and also lifted the Canadian Championship under Vanni Sartini.
