The coach has done his homework

Hansi Flick has been keen to manage Barcelona for some time now and it seems the German coach’s knowledge of the club helped convince Joan Laporta and Co that he was the right man to replace Xavi.

COPE are reporting that Flick made a good impression on Barca for several reasons, but notably for his knowledge of La Masia.

Barcelona are said to have “loved” the fact he “had a folder with names of players” at La Masia that he had clearly been studying “for months.”

Yet that wasn’t the only reason. Flick made it clear Robert Lewandowski would be a key player for him - unlike Xavi who was willing to offload the Poland international.

The new manager is also said to see Frenkie de Jong, Ronald Araujo and Pedri as “pillars” of his new project, something Deco is in complete agreement with.

Flick also understands the club’s financial limitations. He’d love to bring in Joshua Kimmich but is well aware it may not be possible this summer.
