A contract renewal has not been reached
Barcelona have been offered a glimmer of hope in the transfer market with news that midfield target Mikel Merino could be sold this summer.
Merino is one of a host of midfielders who have been linked with Barca and has admitted he’s well aware of the rumors of a move to Camp Nou.
The midfielder is out of contract at Real Sociedad in 2025 and the Basque club are now said to be pessimistic about agreeing a renewal with the Spain international.
Mikel Merino was the only player in Europe's top seven leagues to win 300+ duels during the 2023/24 season.

Local outlet Noticias de Gipuzkoa report the club are no longer ruling out a summer sale in a bid to avoid losing him on a free next summer.
The newspaper adds there are “two clubs” ready to move for Merino, without naming names, and the feeling seems to be a transfer is now on the cards.
Yet any deal will surely have to wait until Merino’s involvement at Euro 2024 with Spain ends, as the midfielder is currently focused on the tournament in Germany.
