Leicester edge closer to making appointment as talks advance on replacement for Enzo Maresca

Leicester edge closer to making an appointment as talks advance on the replacement for Enzo Maresca who left for Chelsea.

There is confusion however, with Fabrizio Romano reporting on the 19th June (8am): “Leicester City and Graham Potter, advancing in talks as full agreement gets closer after talks started last week.

“Staff members also being discussed in order to agree on final details soon with Potter.”

He has since deleted that tweet as, an hour later, The Telegraph claim Leicester City are in advanced talks with the former Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper with a view to an appointment this week.

Leicester are reportedly on the verge of finalising a deal to appoint Graham Potter as their new manager, as per Fabrizio Romano, local media and talkSPORT.

Potter has been in advanced talks with the Foxes over the past week as they seek to fill the managerial vacancy.

Potter was last on the touchline with Chelsea, being dismissed in April 2023, when Chelsea were sat 11th in the Premier League table.

Following his exit, he attracted interest from other clubs, including Ajax, Man Utd, and Leicester, who made an approach for him last summer before appointing Maresca.

However, he declined Leicester’s approach at the time due to his desire for a break from the game. He also reportedly holds interest in the England job.

Meanwhile, Steve Cooper is also eyeing the Leicester job. He has been without a job since his departure from Nottingham Forest in December.

During his tenure, he successfully guided the club from the Championship to the Premier League, and retained their place in the top flight for another season.

Leicester know they’re in for a tough season, are are currently facing the possibility of a significant points deduction due to breaches in profit and sustainability regulations.

This is how fans reacted as Leicester reportedly edge closer to making an appointment as talks advance on a replacement for Enzo Maresca…

@lcfcgeorgee: You have to be fucking joking me

@SamJGZD: Love Cooper for getting us up, but going from Potter to Cooper overnight must be a gutter for #lcfc fans. Wish him the best but his football is dire.

@Pierre5138: Bro what’s going on it was Cooper yesterday

@RyanLewi: Ffs not him

@cleavel09: Please no!!!!!!!!!!!

@AitchGregory: £72 for Cooper managed LCFC v Spurs on a televised Monday night. Sounds not too far off hell

@Chris78901: Interesting this as someone’s got their info wrong – are you team Telegraph or team Romano? πŸ˜‚ if Cooper goes there, I’d wish him the best of luck. What that man did for our football club is immeasurable #nffc

@LCFCFamily: All a bit strange 🀷

@jtweets1865: He rates the Leicester he hates the Derby. Best of luck Steve, hope you finish bottom.

@_SamAddison: Potter hype was nice whilst it lasted. I’m shocked the club have picked the worst outcome! Get fucked

@Callum_Boyle_: Yesteday it was Potter, today its Cooper. If it is to be the latter he’s arguably under more pressure than any of the other options to hit the ground running quickly. Failure to pick up points early doors will make the ground extremely toxic

@NFFC_EPL: You shouldn’t go on about how much #NFFC means to you and how much it always will in every single interview and then the first job you jump into is Leicester πŸ˜‚ He’s clapped along to he hates the Leicester he hates the Derby song Hope he’s sacked by Xmas & sends them down πŸ‘πŸ‘

@_Simonian: A morning of 2 advanced manager talks so now it’s Cooper not Potter 🀣

@JakeRileyHunte: lol Fabrizio has got a lot wrong this window already if this is true @lcfcsanny: What the fuck πŸ˜‚ Always trust Percy over anyone else

@HamzaSZN: Erm, what happened to it being a head to head between Potter and Corberan and Potter as leading candidate?

@ashclarke10: Is what it is. I’ll back him and support like every other manager. Keeps us up, I’m happy..

@CoopsLCFC: πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚ what’s going on?

@LC60_98: Yeah… we’re relegated.

@jamieestenning: Pricing fans out of tickets and appointing the worst possible manager. Top, Rudkin and Wheelan must literally live in their own world #lcfc

@LCFCshitposting: Oh my god we’ve been duped.

@LCFC_TonyTempah: How are we somehow close to appointing Potter @FabrizioRomano and Cooper @JPercyTelegraph… what’s going on?! 🀯 #lcfc

@lcfcwaggy: Ha ha ha what the actual fuck is this club man. I’m so glad even yesterday I put more money on cooper being manager. Trust me @JPercyTelegraph is never wrong this time @FabrizioRomano has just been unlucky, he’s normally spot on #LCFC only good thing I’m gonna win cash lol

@LCFC_LCFC: These journalists accounts are as bad as the club 🀣 dangling potter then dropping cooper. I’m sweating here. Stop bringing me up with potter then telling me it’s cooper 🀣 #lcfc

@Chris_LCFC1884:

Steve Cooper 1/10

Graham Potter 7/1

Something has happened in last 24hrs… #LCFC
