A good win for La Roja
Spain made it two wins from two at Euro 2024 with a 1-0 victory over defending champions Italy in Group B on Thursday night in Germany.
La Roja enjoyed the better of the first half and could have taken the lead inside two minutes when Pedri had a great chance.
Nico Williams, who was a constant threat down the left, crossed the ball into the box and found Pedri but his header was tipped over the bar by Gianluigi Donnarumma.
Spain continued to boss the first half but couldn’t find the back of the Italy net, with Donnarumma making important saves from Alvaro Morata and Fabian Ruiz.
Williams and Lamine Yamal were both enjoying themselves on the flanks, and it was just the finishing touch that Spain were missing.

Spain picked up where they left off after the break. Pedri fired a shot wide before La Roja finally went ahead from an own goal.
Again the danger came from Nico Williams down the left with a cross, Morata flicked it on, the goalkeeper just got a touch and it hit Riccardo Calafiori and flew into the back of the net.
Lamine Yamal then went close with a fine left-footed effort from range that flew just wide of Donnarumma’s post, while Williams went even closer with a brilliant effort that beat the goalkeeper but hit the woodwork.
Pedri and Yamal were both given a breather on 70 minutes and replaced by Ferran Torres and Alex Baena as Luis de la Fuente freshened up his side for the final section of the game.
Spain managed to see the game out pretty comfortably, and could have scored again late on through Ayoze Perez, but had to settle for a 1-0 win that secures their place in the knockout stages with a game to spare.
