Boxing Day Tips and Best Bets from Kempton Park

See below the key trends and Boxing Day tips for the four LIVE ITV horse racings from Kempton Park on Monday 26th December – plus claim your £30 Boxing Day horse racing free bet with BetUK.

19/20 – Winners that went onto compete in that season’s Stayers’ Hurdle (Cheltenham Festival) (6 won, 4 runners-up)

12/20 – Winning distance – 4 lengths or more

12/20 – Raced at Newbury last time out

10/20 – Won their last race

10/20 – Favourites that won

3/20 – Trained by Paul Nicholls

3/20 – Trained by Nick Williams

2/20 – Trained by Emma Lavelle

2/20 – Ridden by jockey Tom Scudamore

Champ (4/1) won the race in 2021

Paisley Park won the race in 2018 and 2020

The average winning SP in the last 10 runnings is 7/2

Note: This race is normally run at Ascot (meant to be staged 17th Dec) but was called off and rescheduled for Kempton

SPORTSLENS BEST BET: CHAMP @ 5/2 with BetUK landed the Long Walk Hurdle 12 months ago and despite his advancing years looks worth sticking with. Yes, this race is normally run at Ascot, but there is no reason to think the switch to Kempton Park won’t suit. This Nicky Henderson runner returned to land the Long Distance Hurdle at Newbury last month – beating Paisley Park in a thriller – and is expected to confirm that form being the top-rated in this field of five too.

Of the rest, Goshen is interesting up in trip, but not always the most reliable, while Not So Sleepy will be expected to make a bold bid from the front but in doing so might just set it up for a finisher.

1.20 – Ladbrokes Kauto Star Novices´ Chase (In memory of Nigel Clark) (Grade 1) Cl1 3m ITV

18/19 – Raced within the last 6 weeks

18/19 – Placed in the top two last time out

15/19 – Won last time out

15/19 – French (8) or Irish (7) bred

14/19 – Had won at least 2 times over fences in the UK

13/19 – Winning distance – 3 lengths or more

13/19 – Aged 6 or younger

11/19 – Went onto run in that season’s Brown Advisory Chase, Cheltenham Festival (no winners)

12/19 – Returned 5/2 or shorter in the betting

11/19 – Aged 6 years-old

10/19 – Placed favourites

10/19 – Had won (chase) over at least 3m before

8/19 – Raced at Newbury last time out

8/19 – Winning favourites

5/19 – Trained by Paul Nicholls

2/19 – Trained by David Pipe

2/19 – Ridden by Tom Scudamore

2/19 – Raced at Cheltenham last time out

1/19 – French trained

1/19 – Went onto run in the Cheltenham Gold Cup (One winner – Coneygree 2015)

Bravemansgame (6/5) won the race in 2021

SPORTSLENS BEST BET: MCFABULOUS @ Evs with BetUK was a fair hurdler but is making into an even better horse over fences and rates one of the leading Boxing Day tips on the Kempton card. This Paul Nicholls runner put the useful Thyme Hill in his place last time at Newbury (6 1/2 lengths) after showing a great turn-of-foot that day. He’s now 2-from-3 over fences and is also a course winner (hurdles) at Kempton. Add in the Nicholls yard have won this race twice in the last five runnings, then this is another big plus. Thyme Hill and the other Nicholls runner Gelino Bello look the main threats.

1.55 – Ladbrokes Christmas Hurdle (Grade 1) Cl1 2m ITV

18/20 – Raced within the last 6 weeks

17/20 – Had won at least 4 times over hurdles before

17/20 – Placed favourites

15/20 – Returned 11/4 or shorter in the betting

14/20 – Went onto run in the Champion Hurdle (Faughan (2015), Buveur D’Air (2018), Epatante (2019) winners)

12/20 – Won last time out

11/20 – Winning favourites

11/20 – Went onto finish in the top 5 in the Champion Hurdle that season

11/20 – Had run over hurdles at Kempton before

9/20 – Ran in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle (Newcastle) last time out

8/20 – French bred

8/20 – Irish trained

8/20 – Trained by Nicky Henderson (6 of the last 10)

4/20 – Trained by Noel Meade

2/20 – Trained by Jonjo O’Neill

2/20 – Trained by Willie Mullins

Epatante won the race in 2019 and 2021

SPORTSLENS BEST BET: CONSTITUTION HILL @ 1/7 with BetUK will win this race – barring accidents – but that is obviously reflected in his price. This exciting hurdler is 4-from-4 over hurdles and is the clear favourite for the 2023 Champion Hurdle too. He was super-impressive in winner the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Newcastle last time out (see below) – beating his stablemate Epatante by 12 lengths – and it will be a case of ‘how far’ again here. In total he’s won his four hurdles starts by a staggering 60 lengths.

2.30 – Ladbrokes King George VI Chase (Grade 1) Cl1 3m ITV

18/20 – Had raced within the last 5 weeks

18/20 – French (13) or Irish bred (5)

17/20 – Had won a Grade One chase before

16/20 – Finished in the top three last time out

16/20 – Placed favourites

16/20 – Had won over 3m or further (fences) before

16/20 – Aged 8 or younger

15/20 – Officially rated 168 or higher

15/20 – Returned 9/2 or shorter in the betting

12/20 – Had won a race over fences at Kempton before

11/20 – Winning favourites

11/20 – Won last time out

10/20 – Ran in the Betfair Chase (Haydock) last time out

10/20 – Aged 6 or 7 years-old

10/20 – Trained by Paul Nicholls (12 times in all)

8/20 – Won by a previous winner of the race

3/20 – Won by an Irish-based yard (only 4 in the last 36 runnings)

Paul Nicholls, the Tizzard yard and Nicky Henderson have trained 15 of the last 16 winners between them (10 Nicholls, 2 Tizzard, 3 Henderson)

Trainer Willie Mullins has only won the race twice (2021 Tornado Flyer and 2001 Florida Pearl)

The average winning SP in the last 20 years is 6/1

SPORTSLENS BEST BET: BRAVEMANSGAME @ 15/8 with BetUK can give trainer Paul Nicholls a remarkable 13th King George Chase win in the Boxing Day feature. This exciting 7 year-old has won 5 of his 6 starts over fences, with his only flop coming at Aintree at their Grand National Meeting. He’s since had a wind operation over the summer and showed the benefits of that when landing the Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby at the end of October – watch below – but is many people’s idea of one of the best Boxing Day tips from the live ITV horse racing action.

Bravemansgame is also a course and distance winner at Kempton after winning the Kauto Star Novices’ Chase at this meeting 12 months ago, while of the three Nicholls King George winners in the race he’s the pick of their main jockey Harry Cobden.

Of the rest, L’Homme Presse is the top-rated in the field (170) and will be looking to give trainer Venetia Williams her second King George Chase winner after taking the prize back in 1998 with Teeton Mill. He’ll love it if there was more rain and returned last month to win the Rehearsal Chase at Newcastle with a big weight to make it 6 wins from 7 over fences.

Eldorado Allen has place claims but ground to find with Bravemansgame, Irish raider Envoi Allen is their sole runner but is certainly a player too with Rachel Blackmore looking for another big-race success. Nicholls also have Hitman, who is part-owned by former Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson, and the 2022 King George winner Frodon, who rates best of those at the bigger prices.

Boxing Day Tips and Best Bets from Wetherby

See below the key trends and Boxing Day tips for the four LIVE ITV horse racings from Wetherby on Monday 26th December.

1.35 – William Hill Rowland Meyrick Handicap Chase (Grade 3) Cl1 3m45y ITV

13/14 – Had won 3 or less times over fences (UK)

12/14 – Aged 8 or younger

12/14 – Didn’t win last time out

12/14 – Aged 7 or 8 years-old

12/14 – Raced in the last 5 weeks

12/14 – Returned 9/1 or shorter in the betting

10/14 – Had raced at Wetherby before

8/14 – Carried 11-0 or less in weight

8/14 – Had won over 3m (chase) before

9/14 – Irish bred

7/14 – Unplaced in their last race

4/14 – Raced at either Haydock (2) or Aintree (2) last time out

3/14– Winning favourites

Good Boy Bobby (4/1) won the race in 2021s

Top Ville Ben won the race in 2019

SPORTSLENS BEST BET: SHAN BLUE @ SP with BetUK gets a handy 10lbs from Chantry House and that can be the difference here for this Dan Skelton-trained 8 year-old. He had the race in the bag in the 2021 Charlie Hall Chase here at Wetherby last season when falling late on when miles clear, but can make amends on his first run back at the West Yorkshire venue. He was last seen running down the field at Aintree, but has been freshened up with 261 days off and his record fresh is very good.

Despite that tumble at Wetherby last time out, Shan Blue also a proven CD winner at the track (winning twice) so we know it suits him fine. The already mentioned Chantry House, Into Overdrive and Sounds Russian are respected, but after getting a much deserved win last time at Newbury, the Philip Hobbs runner Zanza rates best of those at bigger prices.
