The two playes are crucial for the boss

Xavi has sent out a strong message on the futures of Sergi Roberto and Frenkie de Jong ahead of Barcelona’s clash with Valencia.

De Jong is once again being linked with a move away from the club, but Xavi insists he remains crucial to his plans.

“He is a fundamental footballer, very important for me, absolutely nothing changes. Frenkie has had the misfortune of having three ankle injuries and it is a shame because he was at a very high level before getting injured,” he said.

Xavi also insisted once again that Roberto deserves a new contract as he heads into the final months of his existing deal.

“I want him to renew and now it depends on him. He knows my position. He can help us a lot. I hope he renews,” he aded.

The Barca boss also spoke about the possibility the club will be able to return to the 1:1 rule in the summer transfer window.

“We have not spoken yet. We have to know where we are with fair play, hopefully with the 1/1 rule but before all that we have to finish the season well. The situation of the club will determine the planning. We are in the same situation as the last year,” he said.
