Time for an update now on the current manager search for Burnley, Brighton, Leicester, Sheffield United, Hull and Sunderland.

We start with Brighton as reports on Thursday night (30th May) state that the Seagulls are stepping up their search for a new manager with Steve Cooper has emerged as the leading candidate, according to Mail Sport.

Earlier this week, Brighton discovered that Kieran McKenna, a manager they were keen on, wanted to stay loyal to the Ipswich Town, of whom he guided to the Premier League with, signing a new contract that extends until 2028.



Brighton were said to be considering a return for Graham Potter as replacement for De Zerbi.


Now Cooper, who has been without a job since his departure from Nottingham Forest in December, is on their list.


Burnley this week expressed an interest in Cooper, but he has since expressed a desire to manage in the Premier League.


Now Burnley have made Frank Lampard a top candidate to take the vacant role at Turf Moor.


Scott Parker is also on Burnley’s list as per Alan Nixon.


In the meanwhile, Craig Bellamy have taken temporary charge of Burnley following the departure of Vincent Kompany with first team coach Mike Jackson, who took temporary charge of the side after Sean Dyche’s departure during the 2021-22 season, made assistant head coach to Bellamy.





Sheffield United are also said to be interested in Cooper, who like the Clarets were also relegated back to the Championship. But with Cooper likely for a job in the Premier League, the Blades will have to look elsewhere.

And what about Leicester with Enzo Maresca said to be leaving for Chelsea? On the 28th of May, John Percy says Graham Potter and West Brom’s Carlos Corberan are ‘likely to come into the mix’.

In days that have passed, L’Équipe report that Leicester are considering OH Leuven manager Oscar Garcia. Former PSV boss Ruud van Nistelrooy is also of interest.


The Telegraph do claim that Leicester may have hurdles in landing their man.

They write: “Corberan is one candidate, although with Leicester facing huge challenges under Premier League profit and sustainability rules, paying compensation could be an issue – and Corberan signed a new contract in February keeping him at West Bromwich Albion until 2027.”

For Sunderland, they are still keen on Will Still who left Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims in May. He expressed interest in one day managing in England and would “love” to work in the Premier League.

But on Friday (31st May), talks to appoint him as their new head coach were all but over according to Sky Sports.

The 31 year old had looked into living in North East but has concerns over investment and the make-up of staff.

Rene Maric is also thought to be admired by Sunderland as they search for a successor to Michael Beale.


And for Hull City, who parted company with Liam Rosenior, Tim Walter has become their new manager after a successful spell in Germany. The 48 year old ex-Hamburg and Stuttgart is to fly to the UK and agree a deal imminently.

Just after they both held initial discussions, Hull CEO, Tan Kesler, spoke of how impressed he was with Tim Walter: “We always say that we are looking for unique coaches with unpredictability, being able to take risks and create our own culture and identity. Tim is one of the names that is on the list of strong candidates and he is a strong candidate. He represented that,” Kesler stated on May 13th.

“During his time with Hamburg, he changed the identity of how they played. He brought the fans back to the stadium and improved the attendance just by the way he played.”
