The midfielder has impressed at Euro 2024
Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann has been talking about Barcelona midfielder Ilkay Gundogan after an impressive start to Euro 2024.
The Germany captain bagged a goal and assist last time out, and Nagelsmann says he plays his best football in a more advanced role.
“I count him as part of the spine that we have from front to back,” he told reporters.
“He has players next to him who take more risks. I think that’s his best position. Even in the year of the Champions League victory with City, he always played very high up the pitch. He has a big impact there”
Nagelsmann’s comments come amid speculation Hansi Flick will use Gundogan as a playmaker next season after taking over from Barcelona.
Pep Guardiola has already made it clear he thinks Gundogan is at his best “behind the center forward” where he can plunder goals.
