Leicester City vs Everton – Key clashes to watch out for

Leicester City will welcome fellow relegation rival Everton to the King Power Stadium this Saturday.

Both sides are yet to record a victory this season in the Premier League and will battle hard for the three points. Here are three key clashes to watch out for during the game.

Jamie Vardy vs Michael Keane and James Tarkowski

Watching 37-year-old Jamie Vardy outpace England international Marc Guehi at Selhurst Park was a wonderful moment for all Leicester fans. The Foxes captain raced past the Palace defender to take Wilfred Ndidi’s through ball past the keeper before coolly slotting the ball into the empty net.

With Keane and Tarkowski the centre-back pairing in a struggling Everton defence, it will be interesting to see if the duo can keep Vardy quiet. While the Toffees will not leave as much space behind as Palace did, Vardy has shown his effectiveness against low blocks. The number nine is a fantastic finisher and links up play effectively with his one-touch layoffs. With two goals already on his return to top-flight football, Vardy will be itching to increase his tally against the team with the worst defensive record in the league.

Caleb Okoli vs Dominic Calvert-Lewin

Okoli will be tasked with keeping Everton’s biggest threat quiet. Calvert-Lewin has suffered injury problems in the past few seasons, but in his prime, he was one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

The former England international is an excellent finisher and has the pace and physicality to cause all sorts of problems in the final third. Okoli has been solid at the back in his debut season in the Premier League and will face a big test in keeping Calvert-Lewin quiet.

Stephy Mavididi vs Ashley Young

Looking at Vardy’s performances in the past few years, the term ‘age is just a number’ holds true. However, the same doesn’t seem to apply to 39-year-old Ashley Young, who has had a torrid season so far with Everton.

Young has picked up a red and a yellow card in his two starts for the Toffees this season. The fullback has also looked shaky in defence, especially when faced with direct attackers. Unluckily for Young, Leicester have a direct attacker in Mavididi, who will look to take on the fullback at every opportunity possible. Expect a very busy afternoon for Young.
